It’s that time again…

Pitch Slam is on the horizon, and you know what that means. It’s time to reveal this season’s theme! Oh…my gawd. I’m so excited for this one, you have no idea. Well, maybe you do, or rather you will.

Drum roll, please!

That’s right my potential Pitch Slammers, this years theme is centered around the world that gave birth to everyone’s favorite boy wizard. There will be four teams represent by the four Houses. Each team captain, or head of house, will select students and their manuscripts during our own special sorting ceremony. The stories chosen will be put on display for more than THIRTY–you read that right–professors (agents) to assign points to and request pages. For example:

10 Points – Query and first 10 pages
25 Points – Query and first 25 pages
50 Points – Query and first 50 pages
100 Points – Query and first 100 pages
200 Points – Query and full

The house with the most points wins!

October 17th is when the fun starts, so get your first pages and 35 word pitches ready. This contest is open to manuscripts of all genres and age ranges with the exception of picture books. Not that we don’t think picture books are awesome, cause they are, we’re just not at all familiar with what about them would catch an agent’s eye, cause they’re a whole different beast, and we are not worthy.

Now then, a couple of rules from the Headmaster. This contest is open to complete and polished manuscripts only. If you’ve entered Pitch Slam before, but were not featured in the agent round, you may enter again. If you’ve entered Pitch Slam and did indeed make it to the final round, you may only enter again so long as it is with a different story, or it’s been, like, three years and significant revisions. More details such as time, formatting rules, etcetera will be posted over on my website, so keep an eye out there.

As always, if you have any questions, hit me up on twitter @ElleOnWords or toss out a tweet into the #PitchSlam hashtag. We’re so excited you guys, and we hope you are too! Let’s make some magic!

About L.L. McKinney

I write fantasy and science fiction, for adults and young adults. And new adults. That last one boggles the mind, doesn't it.
